Among his responsibilities were drafting the legal documentation for business loan applications in California and throughout the continental United States and its overseas territories, mainly for corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, and sole proprietorships, but also for non-profit entities, including common interest development projects, churches, schools and museums. John attended the University of San Diego School of Law, where he focused on the complex field of business law, in particular the areas of real estate transactions, secured transactions, UCC commercial transactions, corporate law, bankruptcy law, patent law, and tax law. His favorite writing seminars focused on California water and energy law. Here he evaluated both the legal implications of various solutions to Southern California’s water shortage problem, as well as the legal issues of starting Direct Access in California, a program that would allow residential consumers to obtain their electricity directly from third party providers rather than utilities.

Before law school, John worked as an analyst and management consultant for multiple companies and government agencies, including the Northrop Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Los Angeles, the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington D.C., and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Houston, Texas. Among his responsibilities were evaluating US regulatory regimes and the commercial potential of new technologies. John also lived in France, where he studied technology management and worked at the French Institute of International Relations in Paris. These experiences have given John an in-depth knowledge of technology issues he applies to all the firm’s product liability cases.

John grew up in San Luis Obispo, California and obtained his undergraduate degree in economics from Stanford University. In his free time, John enjoys traveling, gardening, and playing tennis.
