Don Ernst leads the “premier plaintiffs’ law firm of the Central Coast,” according to Super Lawyers. Named to Super Lawyers every year since 2008, he has been litigating against corporations for more than 35 years.
Don graduated from Stanford University with a BS in Economics, ‘71 and University of San Diego School of Law in ‘75. Living in San Luis Obispo since 1977, Don specializes as a Trial Lawyer and he has tried more than 100 cases to verdict.
In addition to this experience, he is a recent President of the Consumer Attorneys of California, also known as the California Trial Lawyers. Prior to his Presidency, Don served on the board of governors for 18 years, representing Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties. In 1990 he founded Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association and was the first president. Additionally, he founded the Lawyer Referral and Information service in San Luis Obispo, making sure people who need a lawyer get the assistance they need to find the right one.
Don has the highest possible rating for ethics and skill from Martindale Hubble, the high rank of Advocate in the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates, and won Trial Lawyer of the Year in 1998, 2002, and 2006. In addition to these prestigious accolades, he holds a rare 10 out of 10 rating for an attorney on AVVO. He was also a finalist for the statewide Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2011, and is now up for Trial Lawyer of the Year for the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
Nigel A. Whitehead, Esq. has been practicing law since 1988. Nigel began his career with a Los Angeles firm with over 250 lawyers. Between 1995 and 2006 he ran his own successful law firm, before teaming up with the Ernst Law Group. Nigel is a past President of the Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association, and is currently the Vice President.
Nigel has been married to his wife Hope for over 23 years and is the proud father of three children and a proud granddad of his first grandson. He enjoys golf, fishing, bike riding, and hiking.
Christopher D. Edgington, Esq. has been practicing law in the Central Coast since 1999 and has been with Ernst Law Group since 2001. Chris received his undergraduate degree at Cal Tech in Economics and Engineering and Applied Science. He then applied this technical background to law receiving his J.D. from University of California, Hastings in 1993.
Since joining the Ernst Law Group in 2001, Chris focuses primarily on the prosecution of the firm’s complex consumer class action files which are focused primarily on principally insurance cases.
Chris has most enjoyed the several class action cases brought on behalf of classes comprised of senior citizens or disabled individuals. He helped steer the Ernst Law Group to successfully pursue these insurance class actions.
Terry Kilpatrick, Esq. primarily focuses on cases involving serious personal injury, wrongful death, and class-action fraud. He has been practicing law since 1992 and before joining the Ernst Law Group he was a partner of a prominent San Diego law firm.
Terry is an advocate for justice and is committed to helping those who have been injured by the negligent and wrongful acts of others. He is an experienced litigator and has successfully tried cases before judges and juries in both state and federal courts and, when appropriate, follows through with appeals. “Without exception my clients just want what is fair, but they soon learn that even this modest goal requires a seasoned-litigator that knows how the system works and is willing to fight for their rights.” In 2007 Terry received state-wide recognition as California Lawyer Magazine’s “Attorney of the Year” for his success in a civil rights case. Terry is a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California and the Central Coast Trial Lawyers Association.
Taylor Ernst, Esq. is the newest member to the Ernst Law Group. His prior work experience included working at one of the most prominent plaintiff firms in San Diego, and a large downtown LA firm. Taylor is a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, and in 2009 won the USD Mock Trial Tournament.
Taylor’s experience includes data privacy litigation, personal injury, and complex litigation. He has expertise in assortment of internet related litigation, and professional ethics with social media. Currently he is an advisory board member to three technology companies.
When Taylor is not working, he enjoys running, surfing and studying Mandarin Chinese.
